Appointments

When booking an appointment we would be grateful if you would answer a few questions when asked by our reception staff, this allows us to determine how best to help you. All of our appointments are initially by telephone as this allows the doctor to prioritise urgent cases on the same day. Following the doctors telephone appointment you will be offered a face to face appointment if necessary, which is usually the same day or at your convenience. This also applies to our routine appointments. We have a zero tolerance policy at the surgery so any verbal abuse towards staff or clinicians will not be tolerated.

IF YOU HAVE A MEDICAL EMERGENCY SUCH AS CHEST PAINS, DIFFICULTY BREATHING OR VOMITING BLOOD PLEASE CALL 999

Appointments with the Practice Nurses

Please call the surgery to book your appointment with a nurse in advance. It is helpful if you tell our receptionists the reason for your appointment, i.e. Asthma review, blood pressure check etc to ensure that the correct time is allocated for your appointment.

Cervical smears and Asthma review appointments are now available to be booked online using Patient access or the My GP app.

URGENT CALLS

After 18:30pm and over the weekend, please call 111 you will be connected to NHS Direct. Who will either give you advice or refer you to a doctor at a Primary Care Centre locally.

Additional appointments

Redlam Surgery is a member of Blackburn with Darwen’s local primary care federation, which means at times we can share appointments with other surgeries. The extended access service provides additional appointments at four other local practices which our patients can assess should they require a more flexible consultation. Please ask our reception if you require more information.

Two for one appointments

PLEASE NOTE THAT ONE APPOINTMENT IS FOR ONE PERSON.

When booking an appointment each patient is given an allocated time. The time is to allow an appropriate consultation length of time for one person. If you want more than one patient to be seen then they will need a separate appointment. Please do not ask the doctor to see an extra patient who does not have an appointment booked.

Late for an appointment / missed appointments

If you are going to be late to your appointment please let us know so we can pass the message on to the doctor or nurse. If you are more than 10 minutes late we may have to reschedule your appointment.

If you are unable to attend your appointment please let us know as missed appointments cost the NHS and the appointment could have been booked for another patient.
